Ain’t we all love work-at-home days? Laptop with your coffee mug on the side and FRIENDS on mute for eternity. Sunita, a textile designer, wanted to build her home as an enlarged workspace. “I wanted a home that will ignite my creativity, help me design in my own comfort. Im not a work-station person. Inspiration is hidden in the smallest of things and I wanted to fill my home with them”

Dominated by the wood work, the rest of the house is a surreal extension of earthen colours and patterns starting from the leather sofas, lazy beanbags, translucent linen sheers, the perfect round table that bears a metal piece assembled from the spare parts of a cycle. The space carries its own sun rays and is a pleasant guest till 6pm. “I love natural light and greenery. Though we keep the curtains closed most of the time, it feels like being outdoors in my hall”.

Also an artist, Sunita has decorated her walls with her own work. Abstract portraits greet every visitor who will end up trying to make sense out of it. “I started decorating my study room first and moved to the hall and my bedroom”. We saw a wooden rack with files and folders paired with some books with a desk that can make any office swoon to the floor. A very lady-like wooden table standing on pencil heel stands facing the wall with framed inspirations, Sunita has designed herself. The lounge sofa in brown and is filled with colourful cushions with cheeky quotes and patterns.

Probably, the loudest corner of the house is the guest room that screams “fun”. A cycle is parked on the wall. Yes, a cycle. The pillow and cushion cover designs are inspired from handloom textile designs. “An empty space doesn't torment me. I like to take my time in browsing for the perfect addition. My home changes with my mood, I have no set style-list. I like experimenting with a lot of styles and keeping it simple, at the same time.”

This is not a typical indian home, but the desi'ness is subliminal, hidden between the bricks. “Though mine is a rental home, the restriction makes decorating exciting. I avoid uniformity and my home is a mix of 3 styles that I love,Bohemian, Eclectic and Scandinavian”, she says. Beauty within 4 walls, without touching the walls, I presume.
Little things make Sunita’s home, a place you would never want to get out of. The branches in the flower pot, the cycle on the wall, rope twined table lamp, painted flower vases, bulb studded mirror, WIFI greeting and the best part, dedicated showpiece rack for souvenirs from 6 countries from the happy couple’s honeymoon. If that is not cool, then what is?
